Usual disclaimer: This is my own experience only. Use at your own risk. Consult Bentley manual for all bolt torque numbers.
Lift the car. I used drive on ramps in front and then jack stands at the rear.
Unscrew the shift knob, remove center console side trim panels 18 (MG 8 SG 63 ILL 139-00), loosen bolts 4 and remove shift boot. use wood shims or anything similar to firmly wedge the shit lever in neutral unless there is shift adjuster tool available.
Remove the crossmember for floor (MG 8 SG 03 ILL 102-10 item 18).
Place temporary support under transmission and remove two rear subframe bolts (MG 3 SG 99 ILL 36-00 item 6). Lower the support and let transmission down until muffler assembly supports it. Mine went about 5 sm.
Use long rod to push driver side of connecting rod 48 (MG 7 SG 11 ILL 61-00) up to separate it from front selector shaft ball. Move it out of the way, leaving passenger side ball socket attached in place.
Loosen bolt 12 and remove gearshift lever 11 from transmission. Leave it connected to front selector shaft if does not fall from it.
Slide box end wrench on top of the bolt 55 (MG 7 SG 11 ILL 61-00) and use long socket to loose nut 56 and disconnect front selector shaft 6 from rear selector shaft 31. Slide front selector shaft 6 (with lever 11 still attached) all the way forward into engine compartment and find its way out.
I recommend removing and installing the shaft 6 and gearshift lever 11 together because sliding new ball socket 20 on top of the gearshift lever 11 ball requires significant force.
Place front selector shaft in bench wise. Straiten the libs and remove nut 21 and old ball socket 20. Clean the rust before installing new ball socket 20. Place nut 21 and using large screwdriver and a hammer bend lib in tree places. Better bent in new places.
I used lithium grease inside the ball socket then pressed gearshift lever 11 into ball socket 20. Excess grease will be pushed out via small hole on top of the ball socket.
Slide front selector shaft together with gearshift lever back into its place, connecting with rear selector shaft. Tighten bold 12 making sure it goes into is socket.
Place small amount of lithium grease on top of front selector shaft ball and snap connecting rod 48 driver side ball socket on top of the front selector shaft ball. I had to make a hook out of П shaped metal bar and pull almost half of my weight while under the car to have it snap in place.
Make sure transmission is in neutral and tighten nut 56, locking both selector shafts together.
Remove wedges around gearshift lever 9 and verity shifting action. Readjust if needed.
Reinstall the shift boot and tighten bolts 4 (MG 8 SG 63 ILL 139-00). Screw on shift knob. Reinstall center console side trim panels 18 (MG 8 SG 63 ILL 139-00).
Reinstall subrame bolts (may need to jack up transmission a little if bolts don't reach). Do not overtighten or cross thread the bolts!
Reinstall the crossmember for floor (MG 8 SG 03 ILL 102-10 item 18).
Useful application is here.
